Kiwis must have invented the layering trend due to our average winter temp plus wind chill so you’d think we’d be masters at it.
The trick is to team two summer items together to make one winter look. E.g.: a button down shirt and a satin slip. Add boots and you are an homage to Kate Moss circa 1990.The hoodie under the blazer is a juxtaposition that really embodies the layering trend. Team it with a chic pencil skirt and really blow peoples minds.
Shoestring straps look great over a long sleeve top or knit. Contrast the fabrics with cotton and silk or lace and knit for next-level styling.
A layer of fine merino next to the skin makes lighter layers more wearable on cold days. Try layering short or long sleeve merinos and merino leggings under your clothing to keep you toasty warm. Fabric content is key when layering for warmth. Make sure the fibres are natural: wool, cashmere, silk, cotton, merino, alpaca are all worth their weight in gold when it comes to layering. Then you can add your lighter weight items.
Layer like a pro by combining a long length shirt, with a cropped sweater, then add a leather bomber as outwear. Differing lengths gives a dynamic and edgy vibe. Finish the outfit with loose-legged pants or skinny’s depending on your proportions.
